Vivian

Age 17 · English · Traveler · Artist

Curious, creative and eager to see the world, Vivian sets out from England with a sketchbook in hand and a limited trunk. She explores new cities, meets fascinating people, takes lessons and discovers who she might become.

“There is so much to see, so much to learn.”

Tassie

Age 34 · Irish · Cousin · Chaperone · Travel Companion

Tassie is Vivian's older cousin and trusted companion on the Grand Tour. Practical, well-traveled and quick-thinking, she helps manage the realities of life on the road — from finances and logistics to finding the best shops, lessons and places to stay.

With a warm sense of humor and a keen eye for people, Tassie keeps Vivian (mostly) out of trouble while encouraging her to explore, learn and grow into an accomplished woman.

“The world is wide, dear girl. Let's see what it has to offer.”

Historical Figures

In Paris, Vivian encounters Mammès-Claude Pahin de La Blancherie — writer, collector and founder of the Salon de la Correspondance, a pioneer of the modern museum.

Vivian later meets Adélaïde Labille-Guiard — painter, teacher and advocate for women artists — discovering new possibilities for her own life in art.
